I'd been warned against the salad spinners with pull-strings, and I'm glad I chose this as an alternative. It's easy to use, and everything comes apart, so it's easy to clean and dry. It does require rather a lot of pumping to dry the lettuce to my liking, but it's still a lot more convenient than doing without a spinner. Since I got the spinner I'm eating salad a lot more often than I used to.You can wash, dry, and serve your lettuce using this product. The outside piece makes a nice serving bowl if you wipe it dry after spinning your lettuce. You can also use the inside piece for draining pasta, but the openings are too big for skinnier pastas such as spaghettini and capellini (angel hair). They'll slide right through into the sink. After 2 1/2 months of use I can say I'm very pleased with this spinner. There are a couple of drawbacks worth mentioning: 1) Size: It's quite large, and it can be hard to find a place to store it. I love salads but it can be a real pain in the neck washing lettuce, which can make the prep work rather burdensome. This is mainly due to the fact that lettuce can be difficult to dry once it is washed. This leads us to the novel idea of "salad spinners".I have used several salad spinners before I used this one by "Leifheit". I am here to say that this spinner isn't anything special. Do not get me wrong, it is okay and is adequate but it isn't a new revelation in salad preparation. If nothing else, it is a bit lacking. I used some green leaf lettuce in this spinner and the lettuce still seemed wet to me once it was spun. In addition, the "pump" that spins the lettuce has a rather stiff function to it. The clean up isn't too bad but it leads me to wonder, "should I just clean the lettuce on my own and skip the spinner". The basket inside is nice and could double as a colander. The combination of salad spinner/lettuce storage for the Leifheit spinner is excellent. I rinse my greens, spin them, pour off most of the excess water and then just store them in the fridge, where they keep nice and crisp! I like the look of the bowl, which is a good size and attractively designed. It could definitely do as a serving bowl in a pinch.My complaints about this item are not very serious, but worth noting is the squeaky noise that the spinner makes, right out of the box. It's not super loud, but it's enough to be distracting. Secondly, the rubber bottom ring pops right off and is a little challenging to get to stay on! Also, for the amount of space the center where the spin mechanism is, I would think that the handle could easily be designed to pop down into that space for storage, instead of having an extra piece to get lost and keep track of.
